10th November 2011
44 tiny ten and eleven year old children from Sungai Buloh primary school arrived at the doorstep of the Yoga Home in Batu Arang on the morning of 10th November 2011. They were accompanied by their school teachers on a chartered bus and were very excited from this excursion. Malaysian Yoga Society (MYS) had organised the one day yoga camp as a conclusion to the school year after the children have attended 6 months of weekly yoga sessions at school conducted by MYS volunteer teachers.
The Yoga Home was filled with joyful chatter of children on this lovely morning as they were guided through the fun activities planned for the day. They began with learning a yoga song with synchronised actions to break the ice for everyone. After this warm welcome, the children continued with a session of playful yoga postures which got them to focus in the moment, and at the same time laugh together. During tea break was an interactive discussion session where the children identified the qualities that they admired in famous people and then reflected on their own best qualities to be motivated and encourage self esteem. This was followed by small group session of character building conducted by a volunteer teacher from Creative Genius. During this time these children left their mark in a garden patch at the Yoga Home by planting a flower sapling each as a symbol of building good character in themselves. The children also had the opportunity with some stage time to display their acting talents after creating their own drama to help them understand simple moral and values.
After a hearty lunch sponsored by well wishers, the children boarded their coach to return home to Sg Buloh feeling cheerful and relaxed for the school vacation ahead.
